About Therèsa Luyt
Therèsa Luyt has run a mediation-only practice since 2016 and has mediated more than 800 matters spanning family and divorce, civil, commercial and workplace, Road Accident Fund and restorative justice disputes. She holds a B.Proc from the University of the Free State, qualified as a Certified Financial Planner in 2004 and trained as a life and communication coach in 2014 — a combination that shapes her approach to the financial and human dimensions of a dispute alike.
She has been a NABFAM-accredited mediator since 2020 and is a NABFAM-recognised Accreditation Supervisor and facilitator of the mediators’ mentorship programme, mentoring new mediators within the ADR Court Project since 2023. She co-founded that project, which began at the Children’s Court in Protea Soweto in 2023 and extended to Johannesburg Central in 2024, and where she now contributes as a mediator and accreditation supervisor. She served as Vice Chair of the Social Justice Association of Mediators from 2022 to 2025.
At MV Inc., Therèsa leads mediation preparation consulting — the MV Inc Preparation Protocol — and co-presents the Mediation for the Modern Attorney series with Karen Malan and Mervyn Vermeulen. She trains teachers and practitioners in conflict management and ADR in collaboration with ProBono.Org, which honoured her with its Best Mediation Contribution award in 2024. She is a candidate attorney in terms of the rules of the Legal Practice Council, currently completing her practical vocational training.
